Album RQF
Rocquefort (or Rock4 - that decision was never made definit ;-) . In the basement of our R&VH office, we created songs every Tuesday evening. Just starting with some lyrics and ending up in the dead of night with a new song on tape. Great time and feeling. We never got further than a few performances in closed circles, but we did make some good songs, that we are still proud of. All playing and singing was in one take, through two mikes hung on the ceiling, directly on tape, no mixing or editing afterwards. Pretty amazing, in retrospect with all digital options for recording these days.

Rocquefort was a three men band: Hans Hool (right on stage), lead vocals in most songs and bass, Hans Gerritse (left), lead guitar and backing vocals, and me on keyboard, some rythm guitar (on my old 12-string) and vocals. Drums came from a Roland TR-808. Lyrics are mostly mine (except for Meet me in London and Romeo and Juliet, by Hans & Hans), all music is by the three of us (except Margareth, by me).

Let’s get out of here · When you’re at a party that you don’t belong.

Meet me in London · An encounter that feels real enough to see her again.

Romeo and Juliet ·History always repeats itself, especially as far as love is concerned.

Forgotten flamenco · A friend with Spanish roots lost her husband at a young age.

Reflections · Holding on to so-called certainties, while losing your love and blaming someone else for it.

More than friends · Trying to maintain a friendship after love. For at least one of the two, that usually doesn’t work.

Fake · Keeping up appearances, to an extent that it will backfire on you eventually, isn’t smart.

Margareth · She couldn’t choose between her former guy and the next, losing both in the process.

Inspiration · Being in a creative job, you always have to come up with something to work with. These lyrics are put to music twice, it’s also a finger-picking song on album 4.

Night’s chillness · About the moment that you realise you’re in love.
