1985-JH-de-kop-is-eraf.jpg

Stock photography has driven many photographers out of a job since the nineties. About a decade before that, airbrush artists became redundant when Photoshop took over their retouching skills. I consider myself lucky to have started in the early eighties, forced to do everything manually - only with tools like pens, brushes and the airbrush. Like the visual here for an ad for myself in 1985. Since 1989 - like most graphic designers -  I did everything on a Mac with the early versions of Photoshop end Illustrator. And QuarkXpress, off course...

Now AI is replacing both the art of photography as well as the craft of retouching (or enhancing or expanding) photographs with digital tools. So the work in this brochure (download pdf) is practically obsolete. Still I’m proud of these 20+ examples of my Photoshop work.

As a photographer, do you recognize one or more of these issues? I am happy to solve them for you - although, with AI, you could easily do that yourself :-).

• Perfect timing, but it was a gray day with flat light...

• Beautiful location, but there is something disturbing in the crop from every angle...

• The head from that one shot and the pose from another. And that hand...

• Beautiful photo, but unfortunately not wide enough for a spread...

• For the cover, we need an extra cm all around...

• The subject blends too much into the background there...

• The horizon is crooked and the shapes converge...

• In this family photo, the father is in the right position and in the other, the daughter...

• The subject is good, but could you spice this up to an eye catching visual?
